Credit level: F4

Description

Japan's rise to a global economic power is one of the most fascinating stories in modern economic history. In roughly 100 years the country turned itself from a largely agricultural society into an industrialized and technologically highly advanced nation. This module focuses on the economic structures and management practices underlying this development. The course will first give a historical overview of Japan's economic development from the mid-19th century to the late 2000s and discuss then in detail major characteristics of industrial structure and management practices such as human resource management and corporate governance.
